Presscouncils.eu launches financial support for media councils in emergency situations. Self-regulation bodies can apply until 16 October 2023. The grant within the project Media Councils in the Digital Age #4 (MC4) will distribute a total of €30,000 to two self-regulation bodies

Who can apply?

The grant programme aims to strengthen the capacities of established self-regulatory bodies that face emergencies threatening their existence. That refers to media councils

(1) in a country at war,

(2) in a challenging political environment,

(3) with financial difficulties,

(4) with structural deficiencies

The call applies to EU Member States, candidate countries and  non-EU countries in the Creative Europe Programme.

Practical information and deadlines

Applicants must submit their English-written Expression of Interest, supporting documentation and fill in the needs assessment before 16 October 2023. The successful applicants will be informed on the results in November 2023.

Applications need to be submitted to Rebecca Bonello Ghio: rebecca@europeanjournalists.org.

Two financial support grants will be awarded and each consist of a series of activities including:

  • One-day workshop with 2 consultants to establish a development  plan of action;
  • 1 grant of up to €15,000 per programme;
  • 3 days of Technical Support and Mentoring by 2 experts during the implementation of the grant

What types of applications are eligible?

The successful candidates are expected to submit their signed expression of interest and complete a needs assessment

The eligible activities that can be funded (beyond media councils’ regular operations) might include communication; data collection and analysis; events, training and conferences; networking and exchange of best practices; or studies, analysis and mapping.

The maximum duration of the financial support is twelve months and will start on 1st February 2024.
