The Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe (AIPCE) will hold its annual conference online on 22-24 September 2021. Organised by the Austrian Press Council, the event will gather representatives of 24 European press councils to discuss the role of media self-regulation in the digital age.

On 23 September, five panel discussions will be open to the public and will focus on media ethics in the context of terrorist attacks, the topic of alternative media, satire and caricature and the discrimination of different societal groups in the media. One highlight of the conference will be the presence of four-time Pulitzer Prize winner David Barstow who will address the importance of collaborative investigative reporting in Covid times.

"The Austrian Press Council is pleased to host the AIPCE-Conference for a second time. It is the first time since the pandemic outbreak that press councils will gather together to discuss how to strengthen cooperation at the European level and discuss current journalistic ethics issues with the public,” said Alexander Warzilek, managing director at the Austrian press council.
